Call for papers
We invite submissions to a workshop on the economic history and historical political economy of Eurasia. The workshop will take place at the University of Chicago Center in Paris on July 17–18, 2026. The purpose of the workshop is to highlight recent research, build interdisciplinary ties and dialogue, and strengthen the community of scholars exploring related issues across neighboring disciplines.
The workshop immediately follows the annual meeting of the Society for Institutional and Organizational Economics (SIOE), to be held at INSEAD outside of Paris, July 13–15.
We welcome proposals, regardless of discipline, addressing any topic related to the economic history and historical political economy of Imperial Russia or the Soviet Union. We especially encourage young scholars, including those currently pursuing Ph.D. degrees, to apply.
The format of the workshop is designed to provide in-depth feedback to presenters and comprehensive discussion of selected topics. Each 50-minute session will be dedicated to a single paper, with a 5-minute presentation by the author followed by a 45-minute discussion. We expect participants to read all papers in advance of the workshop. There is a strict limit of 20 pages (including tables, figures, and references) for all workshop papers. Some participants may wish to provide abridged versions of longer manuscripts.
We will provide at least partial support for travel and lodging for one author of each accepted paper, with priority given to junior scholars. We invite other authors to attend at their own expense. Those interested in presenting should send an abstract and a short paper summary, in PDF format, totaling no more than two single-spaced pages. Submissions should be sent to parisworkshop2026@gmail.com by February 28, 2026. We will notify applicants of proposal status by late March. The hard deadline for final paper submission is July 1, 2026.
